Course Selection
Olivia Stanwyck, Staff Reporter
It’s that time of year again! The time for students to
anxiously choose their courses for next year. Course selection is an intense
part of the year for every student at St.Robert. February 18th was the day of
truth for St. Robert students as their Career Cruising “submit” button was
unlocked.
Every student wants to make sure that the courses they choose relate to their preferred future occupation. Before the students had to start entering in their courses they first had to go through the process of signing in; their username must be their student ID number and their password is their birthdate but had to be changed once signed in. Once the Student is signed in they must click on " Choose my Courses" under the heading "What do you want to do?". They will then see "My Course Plan" which represents a chart of all available years at St.Roberts. When the student is ready to select the appropriate courses for next year they can click the (+) button and find the correct course they are willing to take. Once the student finalizes their selections they are required to press the "submit" button. The sheet with the students courses must then be printed off; signed with his/her and a guardians signature as well as the activity cheques due to their homeroom teacher by February 21st.
"Its pretty daunting; thinking about your future and all." Dion, grade 10 says. When choosing your courses make sure that you have the correct prerequisites. Prerequisites are courses that must be taken before another one is taken. For example, you cannot take grade 11 photography if you have not yet taken grade 10 art. If students plan on taking a course during the summer then they must press the (+) icon in the grey slot when choosing their next year’s courses. Please note that doing this does not mean that you are registered into the summer school course; you must register into summer school courses beginning of April.
Not Returning? Not a problem! You must submit the reason why you are not returning at the button second from the right on your career cruising account. Once that is complete you are required to print the sheet out and get it signed by your parents. The sheet must be handed in to your homeroom teacher by February 21st. For those who are continuing in the International Baccalaureate (IB), they must be aware of the courses that they must take and the selections of electives that they get to choose from. Although every student is anxious to choose their courses for the year ahead, it is a great relief once they are done choosing their satisfied courses. Even though it is a long process, signing into your career cruising account, finding the correct courses with the correct prerequisites it is all worthwhile when you realize that you made your own decisions.
