As members of St. Robert’s, it is our job to strive for not only a better school but also a more pure world. However, this would be difficult to do on our own without the assistance of the environmental club, it becomes a real possibility. What is their goal? When speaking to executive members Ushpreet Mehta and Sharleen Gong, they described that their primary goal is to make students more environmentally aware, ultimately benefitting the school. To be successful in their mission, the club holds various events to get students involved. Their most recent event was earth hour, March 28th, in which the school’s lights were turned entirely off. Their next event will be earth week, where they’ll be promoting sustainability by selling reusable water bottles. Additionally, as the weather begins to get warmer, the members plan to unwrap the trees around the school that were protected during winter. The environmental club also asks students to bring in used batteries, to ensure that they are disposed of in an environmentally friendly manner. At every meeting, members engage in discussions through which new ideas are generated to further enhance our environment. Although the club has 2 co-presidents, 5 executives and close to 30 members, the environmental club is always looking for more students to promote the conservation of the earth. If you want to participate in this and many more activities, the environmental club takes place every Tuesday in room 144 after school.
