Grade Nine Dance: The Moves to High School
June Xu, Staff Reporter
Starting high school? Want to learn new dance moves? Want more friends? Leave it up to the St. Robert's Catholic High School Niners to teach you how. At the Grade Nine Dance, St. Rob's really tore up the dance floor, with students dancing to great music and students creating lots of new friends, it
quickly became an unforgettable night. Palms sweaty, disco pants, underwater themed shirts grazed the interior of the caf. Having the niner population entering the unpredictable dance floor, each of the STUCO members offered a warm welcome. At first, each and every one of the grade nines had mixed emotions. Some were scared, some were awkward and some were unsure about the entire idea of even moving. Yet ever so slowly, each individual grade nine extended their comfort zone. Little by little, whispers in the room became chatter. One friend at the dance turned into three. |
Eventually, the dance led to every single person dancing like crazy on the dance floor
whether doing hipster moves or even the cha cha slide. Every member of the St. Robs’ community was showing their true colours and fun spirit on the dance floor. It was as if the unbreakable barrier of awkwardness had just disappeared in the music. Daniel Beyene, a grade nine student at St. Robs said, “This dance made my year.” It’s pretty amazing to see students surpass the areas of prejudice and popularity and turn the dance into a free for all fun zone. Students crossed their normal comfort zones and broke the barrier of trying to fit in. Instead of judging someone by their dancing abilities or inabilities, students simply accepted the niners around them and only aimed for the goal of having a good time. The entire group of grade nines have definitely impressed the school. Whether it’s their ability of window smashing or their |
passion towards making a fantastic high school experience for themselves, they’ve done it. The Minor Niners are maybe not so minor anymore. They’ve truly proved that they’ve got that passion and spirit of the St. Rob’s community. And it only took one dance. Watch out St. Robs, the Niners are here to run the school.
