If you haven’t already heard about this club, Social Justice is one of the biggest clubs found at our school. With a club more than 30+ members strong, they are all young individuals who want to make a change and are passionate about the

causes. The club is run by 10 executive members from grades 10-12. Any important or current issues happening come onto the radar of the Social Justice team and are discussed or brought to the attention of the members. For example, the typhoon that recently devastated the Philippines was a concern for the members of Social Justice. For this reason, a Civvies Day was held in November with 100% of the funds given towards typhoon relief. With the contributions of all the students wearing civvies clothing in the school, over

$4600 was raised that day. Weekly, Social Justice targets many topics and discusses it with its members, such as Arab Spring, the US government shutdown, and abortion. Some of these weeks may even be run by grade nine students. Starting this year, Social Justice has started a mentor program, where grade nine students will have the opportunity to get trained to become executives. There are currently 7 of these students, and when given the opportunity, they will take over and lead a meeting from time

to time. Social Justice executive passionate group of people with many more ideas in store. With an idea in mind, they will set upon finishing the goal. Last year’s goal was a success with many events held throughout the year to collect money to build a well in Ecuador last year, with the grand total of $5000 being raised. If you are a student who is passionate about world issues, then you should definitely participate in their meetings, which will take place every Wednesday in the cafeterias from 2:30-3:30PM.
