The Varsity Swim Team prepares to compete at the YRAA Championship which will be held on Tuesday, December 17th and Wednesday, December 18th right before the season wraps up for the winter break. They have already competed at two “Prep” meets at Thornlea S.S., which are put into place to prepare them for the Championship in which students have the opportunity to compete for an OFSAA qualification. At both the Prep 1 and Prep 2 swim meets, the team performed exceptionally well with many top three placements by several swimmers. At the Prep 2 swim meet, the team finished third overall in a pool of six teams.
The team is now gearing up to compete at the final swim meet of the year, making sure that they put in over 100% effort to make it count. “My goal is that each student achieves their personal best at the championship meet,” explained Coach Mr. Mastrangelo. He brings up a great point about achieving a personal best because that is what makes swimming unique compared to other team sports – often times the athletes are actually in competition with themselves to keep setting better personal times.
Students dedicate two days a week to practices at a location outside of school , usually Bayview Hill Pool. They are diligent, hard working and they hope that their efforts will be rewarded at the YRAA Championships.
