Who's Life Is Mine?
By: Meena De Schutter
While searching for the self,
That others saw in me,
I somehow lost the person
That I had wanted to be.
Chasing an identity,
That was never really mine,
A person that the others thought
Would make my talent shine.
I was so caught up in others' dreams
And making theirs come true
I wasn't living for myself
But was living to please you.
Never did you thank me
Nor gave me any praise.
Always wanting more from me
And turning me away.
I wanted you to notice me
In some way, shape, or form,
But what is it that I must do
Until you see that I've transformed?
I have finally realized
That no matter how hard I try,
You'll never be happy with what I've to offer
Until the day you die.
So from now on I have decided
To give up living your dream,
I am ripping off your horrid chains
And I am going to live life like me.
